Перевод из книги "The Siege and the Fall of Constantinople in 1453: Historiography, Topography, and Military Studies" (Marios Philippides, Walter K. Hanak) В отличие от моего перевода не совсем правильный с исторической точки зрения, особенно слово "гомосексуал" в 15 веке быть не могло, и у Халкокондила даже намёка на что то похожее слово нет. Сексуальность греки и вплоть до христианства не разделяли, были лишь предпочтения, и еще был грех, но и Халкокондил, подражая манере античных греков этого не касается. Профессора Филиппидеса я, конечно, очень уважаю за его прекрасный труд по историографии падения Константинополя, ведь если бы не он, то мало что реального я узнала бы о происшествиях 1453 г. (это в отличие от пресловутого С. Рансимена), и я так полагаю, что перевод мог быть выполнен быстро и у поверхностно вследствие спешки к публикации, потому что почти всё издание состоит из переводов, так что маленькие погрешности не так уж страшны. Хотя для дотошного историка хотелось бы точности в таких переводах, особенно когда это касается таких спорных моментов как личная жизнь исторических личностей.

«...the king [= sultan] summoned Vlad [III, the Impaler], the son of Dracula...he had with him his younger brother [= Radu], who became his homosexual lover and lived with him.... As he desired the boy, he invited him to converse with him, proposed toasts in his honor, and invited him to his chamber. The king [= sultan] tried to kiss the unwilling boy. The latter took out a knife and stabbed the king [= sultan] on the thigh. He [Radu] fled without further delay, looking for a hiding place. The king's [= sultan's] physicians took care of the wound. In the meantime the boy had climbed a tree and had concealed himself. The king [= sultan] set out with his army and went away. At this point the boy climbed down and, a short while later, reached the gates [= the Porte] and became the king's [= sultan's] homosexual lover. They do not frown upon those who engage in this lifestyle. He [sc. Mehmed II] spent a great deal of time, night and day, with such people.... The king granted to this boy's brother [Vlad III the Impaler the lordship of Dacia [= Wallachia]»
